Konichiwa from Japan! Quick recap of some of the news you (and I) may have missed over the past two days.
• A former Hong Kong police officer and former manager at the HKETO office in London have been found guilty in their spying case.
FWIW the HK Government says it has nothing to do with them.
• Update on the viral video from back in March regarding a dine (and massage) dasher; Samuel Monkivitch pleaded guilty and was fined $3,000, plus was ordered to use his bail money to pay back the establishments.
Monkivitch claimed his phone payment failed and had no cash, and the court case had interfered with a new job position in Australia.
Court case done, case closed? Well, not so fast. New allegations against Monkivitich arose in April, and waiting to have a chat with him outside Eastern Magistrates’ Court on Thursday were two police officers. He then reappeared in the same court on Friday, and is now remanded in custody until June 5th.
From DSD: Prosecutors allege that between 24th April and 5th May 2026 he left without settling HK$2,039 in bills at four Hong Kong Island and Kowloon venues: Canteen (Central), Cafe Kool at the Island Shangri‑La, Cafe Kool at the Kowloon Shangri‑La, and The Yuu in Wan Chai.
He is further charged with damaging a point‑of‑sale terminal belonging to Shangri‑La International Hotels (Pacific Place) Ltd at the Island Shangri‑La, as well as an iPhone 15 Pro Max owned by a man named Tam Cheuk‑him outside the Hong Kong Museum of History in Tsim Sha Tsui on 4th – 5th May 2026.
• *WARNING: CHILD SEX ABUSE ALLEGATIONS
International Montessori School has an ongoing police investigation after a parent went to police stating their 4-year-old son had been sexually abused at the school.
