New rent agreement in Central shows the decline of retail sales in HK.
New (old) route to Malaysia starting in August.
Changes coming to a couple of consulates.
And a big name in horse racing signs up for the 26-27 HK season.
All this and the rest of Thursday’s news that matters 👇
1. One constant complaint in Hong Kong is directed at landlords, specifically those of retail spaces, who keep rents artificially high to maintain the property value, even if it means leaving the premises vacant.
But as the Marks & Spencer lease renewal in Central has shown, some landlords are willing to bend to market forces to keep their clients happy.
2. HK Express is kickin’ it ol’ skool in August, starting flights between Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, but with a twist; landing at Subang Airport.
Pro: Land near city centre, skip the 2hr commute from KLIA
Con: Awful departure/arrival times; Subang Airport ain’t no KLIA
3. As is the way with diplomatic postings, every 3 years we have to say goodbye to them. German Consul-General Stefan Bredohl and Deputy Consul Stefanie Seedig are off to Türkiye, and Ming Pao reports US Consul-General Gregory May is being moved to Beijing.
A sad farewell to friend of the TG Stefanie. Thanks for everything legend!
