Old HKID cards to expire in May.
Motor vehicle accidents involving elderly taxi drivers on the rise.
HK house/apartment prices continue to tumble.
And FOUR TRAILS wins big at the HK Film Awards.
1. Are you in possession of an older HKID card and born after 1969?
If the answer is yes and yes, then your HKID card will expire on May 12th. If you’re not sure, the old ones look like this 👇
What you need to do is get it upgraded to this 👇
If you answered yes and no (as in you’re born pre-1970), then you have until October 12. Head to Kwun Tong or TKO to get it upgraded. But make a booking first.
2. Don Don Donki, after promising three years ago to swamp Hong Kong in annoying theme-song-pumping stores, are closing one instead.
It was just over one year ago that Nikkei Asia reported on the stalled growth in HK of DDD.
3. Taxi drivers over 60 involved in vehicle accidents are up 40+% since 2022.
You can always bank on for a chart.
4. Speaking of Joel’s charts, he has one showing pre-loved apartment prices in Hong Kong are continuing to decline.
One upside to the lousy market value is the rising rental prices across the city. So selling might not be an option, but at least there’s some money coming in.
5. As mentioned previously in the TG, if you’re heading to Thailand from May 1st onwards, you’ll need a TDAC.
You can only apply within three days of arrival, which means for May 1st travellers, you can apply now!
6. And finally, a big congratulations to Robin Lee for his “Best New Director” gong at the 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards!
You can watch Robin’s post-award interview here.
