• Latest forecast modelling puts the unnamed tropical storm approaching this weekend east of Hong Kong.
It’s going to be wet wherever it lands. The following forecasts are from 7pm 22nd July.
ICON: This was the model that forecast the eye over Lantau yesterday, and has now moved 265km north east.
GFS: Yesterday GFS had the storm hitting Hainan, now forecasts just east of HK.
ECMWF: Yesterday ECMWF forecast the storm to cross west of Zhuhai, so this model is swinging wildly. Dongshan is 420km from Hong Kong.
Needless to say none of these models are overly helpful atm. Check again tomorrow!
• With more heavy rain expected this weekend, July has already recorded more rain than the monthly average.
The monthly average rainfall for July (excluding 2025’s bumper 601.8mm) was 385.8mm.
• This seems to be a feature, not a bug.

Wilson Chan was the judge who oversaw the “Glory to Hong Kong” injunction case whilst simultaneously being investigated for plagiarism in another case back in 2023.

The investigation comes hot on the heels of a 24-hour cut to water supplies in Shau Kei Wan on Sunday due to the aforementioned ageing water mains.
