TG Wednesday May 6th, 2026
Tripperhead Gazette
Some housekeeping at the top of a small TG: tomorrow I fly off to (yet another) cricket tournament, so the TG’s will be coming at a less regular pace than normal for the next fortnight. Fear not, they still will come, but if you don’t receive your daily dose of TG, I’m not dead (at least not literally; after 15 games in 12 days, I might be metaphorically…)
• A bumper Q1 GDP recorded.
Gross domestic product growth in the first quarter was the fastest since the second quarter of 2021, when the economy grew 7.6%. That compared with a revised 4.0% in the fourth quarter of 2025.
On a seasonally adjusted quarterly basis, the economy expanded 2.9% in January-March, the data showed, compared with 1.0% growth in October-December.
• A bumper Golden Week with mainland visitors up 10% over 2025.
• Retail sales grew 12.8% in March, well above forecasts.
• And to end, something is brewing…
Catch you from the middle-of-nowhere Honshū, probably on Friday night/Saturday morning for a TG(IF). 🙌
