• Back in 2018, a school bus driver parked his bus on a slope in North Point, failed to engage the park brake, and the careening backwards bus killed 5 people.

After a long drawn out affair, the coroner has officially ruled the incident “accidental”.

Coroner Stanley Ho did suggest the Transport Dept work on driver education. Also at the time the bus driver could only be charged with failing to engage the brake, and was ultimately fined $2000. Laws were then strengthened. The prosecution tried to charge the driver with more serious offences back in 2022, but the driver had already pleaded guilty to the lesser charge and the upgraded charges were thrown out in 2025 due to “double jeopardy”, which led to such a delay in the coroner’s findings. • Hong Kong Disneyland has finally paid off all its debts to the HK Government, even with profit and visitor numbers falling in the previous financial year.

Profit might be down, but it was still the 2nd best year on record for the theme park.

• Last Friday the government announced that water sports and beach activities management at three public beaches would be put out to private tender. On Monday LCSD said that going to the beach would remain free-of-charge.

• In a move that is likely to irk HSBC staff, the company is looking into scrapping the school allowance for Hong Kong staff.

Nothing has be finalised however.

• Internet and telephone provider HKBN, which has been a target for buyout in the months/years that have past, copped a beating on Monday after a lacklustre 6 months.

• Bloomberg says port operator China Merchants Group is in talks to join a consortium seeking to buy dozens of CK Hutchison ports

• ICAC continues its crackdown on construction malfeasance, arresting five over contracts involving three renovation projects.

The three housing estates are Yan Tsui Court in Chai Wan, Hoi Tao Building in Kennedy Town and Victory Garden in Kwai Chung.
